平成24年度日本学生支援機構「留学生交流支援制度（ショートステイ・ショートビジット）プログラム」の一環として、高知大学に滞在したイタリア・サッサリ大学のLuca　MeloniさんとValentina　Cotziaさん。高知での日々をエッセイに綴ってくれました。

The period in Kochi was really amazing, and interesting from many points of view. When staying at the university we could see how they work there, and what kind of projects the students do. We attendedtheir presentations, and saw how they deal with the problems they have to face. We visited the places of their projects and the city of Kochi, with also the town where our colleagues, who had arrived the year before us, worked. Then when we moved to Ohki for our project, we also observed how it works the whole area, and we were helped by professors and students who allowed us to meet and talk with thekey figures of the place. We were then able to collect the data we needed, and present our ideas or to both. During this time both the professors and the students have always tried to make us feel at ease,and we didn’t have any problem for staying here thanks to them. We have visited many beautiful placesin all the areas of Japan were we stayed, also the ones that we didn’t know about.  In addition, we also carried out other special fun activities, like when we cooked with local products Italian dishes, and we tried to blend the two flavors, or when we saw how are played some festivals in the area. All have always been kind to us, and tried to help us. The place was beautiful, and every day we were able to admire its beauty, both natural and artificial. In essence it's been a very wonderful experience, which has allowed us to know and observe a culture and a place very different from ours, something truly unique.

高知で過ごした時間はあらゆる意味で驚きと刺激に満ちたものでした。

高知大学では学生たちがどのようなプロジェクトに取り組み、何をどのように進めているのかを知ることができました。彼らのプレゼンテーションに参加し、直面している課題をどう解決しようとしているのかに直に触れることもできました。

また、日曜市など高知大学の学生が活動している高知市内の現場や今年の2月～3月に高知に滞在したサッサリ大学の仲間が活動した地域にも出向きました。

土佐清水市大岐地区では、大槻先生や高知大生にサポートしてもらいながら、市の取り組みや地域の景観や観光について話しあいました。必要なデータを収集し、私たちのプランをプレゼンすることも出来ました。この間ずっと大槻先生や高知大生が私たちが快適に過ごせるように心遣いをしてくれました。そのお陰で滞在中、大きな問題もなく過ごすことができ感謝しています。

滞在期間中には日本のあちこちに出かけました。来る前から知っていた京都や奈良だけでなく日本には美しい場所が数多くありました。

さらに、楽しいイベントも企画することが出来ました。土佐清水の食材でイタリア料理のレシピを考案し、試食会を行ったのです。レシピは日本の食材とイタリアの食材を組みあわせ、高知のお祭りでみた料理をイメージしました。

日本で出会った人はみな親切で、いつも私たちを助けてくれました。高知は美しく、私たちは毎日その景観と自然の美に酔いました。

自分たちの文化とは違う、ユニークな世界を見られたこと。大変貴重な体験をありがとうございました。

The period that I just spent in Japan, it was very important and a great inspiration for my studies.

I had the opportunity to confront a different culture from my own, to learn a lot and find many opportunities to choose the topic of my thesis.

The welcome and the continued help of my referents was essential.

With their indications I traveled easily and I saw different and beautiful places.

After the first period at the University of Kochi, where I had the opportunity to know  projects of my Japanese colleagues, I moved to Oki village, a small farming village, behind mountains with boundless woods and in front of a beautiful beach about 2 km on the Pacific. I took advantage of this time to study the area, collecting data, talking with local peaple and get an idea of how to structure my project, which will involve a new Tsunami Evacuation Plan and Revitalization Instruments of Rural Tissues in Oki Area.

After this period in Oki, we returned to Kochi University to prepare presentation about my project to do then the community of Oki.

Over the period of study, we had time to get up to Kyoto, the historic capital of Japan. The city, also known as the "city of a thousand temples", as it was almost entirely spared from the Second World War, is considered the greatest shrine of the Japanese culture, and therefore included in the UNESCO World Heritage sites. The city is famous for its Zen Gardens  that are attached to the temples and are a refined aesthetic embellishment, but also an incentive for meditation. Are made within quite small areas in which you play a landscape with gravel, stones, moss and plants. Overall great experience and great fortune to have known nice people, polite and helpful.

　日本で過ごした期間は私にとって、とても重要な体験で、そこから研究のための多くのインスピレーションを得ることが出来ました。異なる文化と出会い、多くを学び、卒業論文のためのトピックを見つけることもできました。

　滞在期間中、日本の人々の心温まるおもてなしやサポートには随分助けられました。彼らのサポートや手配があったから、日本で旅行することも出来たし、数々の美しい場所を見に行くことが出来ました。

　高知大学で、日本の仲間のプロジェクトに触れた後、土佐清水市大岐地区に滞在しました。大岐は背後に広がる山々と眼前の太平洋、二キロに渡り続く美しい砂浜が印象的な小さな農村です。ここで二週間暮らし、地域のことを学びデータを収集しました。地元の人と話し、私のプロジェクト（大岐地区の津波避難プランと地域防災組織の再生について）をどう構成するかアイデアも頂きました。

　土佐清水での滞在を終え、高知大学に戻り、プロジェクトのプレゼンテーションの準備をしました。

　日本滞在中は歴史都市京都にも出かけました。千年の都として知られる京都は、第二次世界大戦の戦火を免れ、日本文化を象徴する寺社仏閣が数多く残されています。また、その内のいくつかはユネスコ世界遺産にも登録されています。特に禅寺の庭園（枯山水）は有名で、限られた空間に白砂、石、苔とわずかな植物だけで創りだされた世界、造形の美しさを再確認するとともに沈思黙考するたたずまいに感銘を受けました。

　ともかく日本では親切で礼儀正しい人々と出会い、貴重な経験をさせて頂き感謝しています。
